Dietary carbohydrates can be divided into simple or complex CHO. While a low carbohydrate, high protein diet may appear to be attractive to patients with MS, extreme carbohydrate restriction can have deleterious effects of glycogen store depletion and precipitate a ketogenic effect.21
The Glycemic Index is defined as the incremental area under the blood glucose curve following ingestion of a test food, expressed as a percentage of the corresponding area following an equivalent load of a reference carbohydrate, either glucose or white-wheat bread.22,23 Foods are hence ranked on their ability to raise postprandial blood glucose. Numerous factors may influence the GI: the type of carbohydrate, fat protein, water content of food, and the presence of soluble or insoluble fibers.21
High GI foods raise postprandial blood glucose levels with accompanying hyperinsulinemia to a greater degree than lower GI alternatives, which give a more stable diurnal blood glucose profile, blunting postprandial hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia, while mitigating late postprandial rebounds in circulating free fatty acids.24 Furthermore, low-GI foods are often rich in fiber which slows gastrointestinal transit, resulting in increased secretion of anti-satiety hormones such as cholecystokinin, glucagon, ghrelin, and glucagon-like-peptide 1.21,25

In recent years, the common person trying to get a handle on their health has moved past just counting calories to something called macro counting.
Macro counting is a method of counting macros, or “macronutrients,” which are protein, fats, and carbohydrates. This approach to choosing a diet has gained popularity because it allows people to eat until they are full, rather than feeling like they need to limit themselves on portions, as long as they maintain a target balance of proteins, fats, and carbs.

It is often perceived that starchy foods are associated with weight gain, and a high protein/low carbohydrate diet has become popular for weight loss.25 The quality of the carbohydrate, however, may be more important than the amount, and cumulative evidence suggests that whole grains are beneficial in terms of body weight regulation.26
During the past three decades, the diet in many Asian countries has become Westernized consumption of plant-based staples has decreased while that of high energy density pre-prepared food has increased. In China between 1989 and 2004, rice intake decreased from 348 g/d to 280 g/d a 20% decrease over 15 years.20 During the same period, there was a significant increase in overweight and obesity.20 However, very few studies have assessed the association between rice intake and body weight status worldwide.
Inverse associations between rice consumption and overweight/obesity have been demonstrated in successive phases of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey . In NHANES 19992004, among those aged 1850 years, comparing rice eaters with non-rice eaters, the OR was 0.77 for overweight and 0.83 for obesity.27 This association was independent of ethnicity. In NHANES 20072008, it was found that rice consumption was associated with a lower BMI, smaller waist circumference and tricep skinfold thickness, and lower serum insulin concentrations .

If the rest of the population would have kept fats to 20% or lower, I believe this would be the diet we would still be following today.

The Bottom Line On High Carb Low Fat Vs Low Carb High Fat
At the end of the day, the best diet for you is the one that includes food that is nutritious and that you enjoy eating. Adherence is the greatest factor in the success of any long-term diet.
On the flip side, if you prefer plates of pasta with marinara, gourmet sandwiches with assorted meats, cheeses, and vegetables, or a simple bowl of pho from your favorite Vietnamese restaurant, that can work too.
So, long as you are able to maintain a calorie deficit, consume enough dietary protein, satisfy your micronutrient requirements, and can adhere to your nutrition plan, it doesnt really matter whether you go high carb, low fat or high fat, low carb.
They both can work. Some people simply feel more full eating higher-fat diets, while others feel better eating a higher percentage of carbs and less dietary fat.
In the end, only you know what your body responds best to, and which manner of diet leaves you feeling more satisfied. Right now it might be low fat, high carb, but 5 years from now it could be just the opposite. Just realize that both styles of eating can work for weight loss. Experiment with both styles of dieting and see which one works best for you!
Can Carb Cycling Help You Lose Weight

In theory, carb cycling may help you maintain physical performance while encouraging your body to burn fat for energy.

Just as fat has been demonized in the past, it appears the same thing is now happening with dietary carbohydrate.
That begs the question are carbohydrates harmful?
The answer is no, but we should clearly differentiate between the different carbohydrate sources.

Molecular Basis Of Type Iv Glycogen Storage Disease
Type IV GSD is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by deficiency of the glycogen branching enzyme , leading to accumulation of amylopectin-like compounds in various tissues. The human GBE cDNA is 3 kb in length, and encodes a 702 amino acid protein. The GBE gene is located on chromosome 3p14 and has 16 exons. Mutations in GBE have been reported.291
Three types of treatment, without decided improvement, were used for one patient.292 First, a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet with corn oil added to the milk fat caused no change in weight gain or in the progression of cirrhosis. Second, with progression of the disease, treatment with purified -glucosidase from Aspergillus niger was given for 6 days. This treatment resulted in a striking decrease in hepatic glycogen content, from 10% to 2%. Although no unfavorable reaction occurred, liver size did not decrease. Glycogen content was maintained at 3% by a third treatment, intramuscular injection of zinc-glucagon, 1 mg three times a day for 24 days. Any positive effect of these treatments remains doubtful. On the other hand, the poor clinical results following the treatments might have been related to the advanced state of cirrhosis before their initiation.
A study by Starzl’s group suggests that liver transplantation in GSD-IV results in resorption of extrahepatic deposits of amylopectin, possibly by systemic microchimerism .293
