After visiting 25 of the top low carb fast food restaurants in the United States and ordering 30+ different low carb breakfasts, here are the main lessons I learned:

  • Sausage, egg, and cheese combos offer the best value with the lowest carb counts and highest calories. You can special order a bunless sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich or a tortilla-less breakfast burrito from almost every fast food restaurant.
  • Steak, egg, & cheese combos are a great option at places like Taco Bell and Taco Cabana that dont serve sausage patties.
  • Fast food bacon is generally over-priced and over-cooked such that much of the fat content is removed and it becomes light on calories. Sausage is a better bet as your breakfast meat of choice.
  • Make sure the cheese isnt sticking to the container when its served hot. Cheese tends to melt and stick to the package if its not properly sandwiched between eggs & meat. If you catch it early, you can fix it.
  • Similarly,check your bag before driving off. Sometimes they forget to omit the bun, tortilla or potatoes like you requested!
  • Hopefully, those five tips will help you with any low carb fast food breakfast order. Now lets look at how I did my research for this project.

    Thanks to a memorable jingle, you probably know that each McDonald’s Big Mac comes equipped with a pair of all-beef patties, cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, and a sesame seed bun that’s slathered with special sauce. While this sandwich has barely been touched since it was invented in the 1960s, you’ll at least need to get rid of the sesame seed bun in order for it to be keto-friendly. You could shave off a few more carbs by getting the Big Mac plain without the special sauce, but where’s the fun in that?     • Burger King – lettuce burgers . Seared chicken wraps .
    • Wendy’s – low-carb burger – you don’t even need to ask for any substitutions! Yay.
    • Chipotle Burrito bowl with cauliflower rice and no beans is a quick and easy low carb meal.

    Another key aspect of selecting a suitable fast food place is to go with those that have a broad menu selection rather than those that wont offer you many options other than highly processed and carb-dense foods.

    A lot of coffee houses now offer hot breakfast sandwiches as well so if you are in a rush, order a breakfast sandwich and get rid of the bun youll be left with a gooey and delicious mess of eggs, cheese, and sausage or bacon!

    Keto Cracker Barrel Options

    Although Cracker Barrel falls into most breakfast food categories, we thought they deserved their own mention since they have a specialty low carb menu. While its nothing out of the ordinary, it does allow for many low-carbers and ketoers to enjoy their restaurant without having too much trouble deciding what to get.

    They have a wide variety of things offered including:
