Frequently Asked Questions About This Dressing Recipe:

Low Carb Salad Dressings

What does this dressing taste like?

Sweet-and-sour describes the honey/balsamic combination of flavors. Subtle umami notes from the soy sauce and Dijon mustard add to the fun. Creamy Greek y ogurt acts as the go-between by smoothing and delivering the complex flavors found in this simple and easy recipe.

How long will the dressing stay fresh in the refrigerator?

This dressing should be good for at least two weeks.

What other foods are good with this dressing?

Try this Balsamic and Yogurt Salad Dressing recipe with a lettuce/fruit and nut combination. For example, I love it with chicken and sliced oranges, dried cranberries and almonds, dried blueberries, and toasted pecans. Consider serving this dressing as a dip on a relish plate in place of ranch dressing for a change.

Why You Might Want To Make Oil Free Salad Dressings

One of the main health benefits of a salad is a very high nutrient to calorie ratio. A pound of raw greens, for example, contains around 100 calories. For a visual, the large plastic clamshell containers of mixed greens at the supermarket weigh one pound. You would be hard-pressed to eat that entire container all at once, especially if you added some carrot shreds and sliced red onion, cucumber, and radish for variety and texture. A more realistic portion of that mixed green salad is a quarter-pound, which would, after adding in some bonus veggies, yield around 60 calories. So far, so good.

Now add your oil-based salad dressing. Lets stick to the serving size of two tablespoons just for the sake of argument. A serving of dressing thats 50% oil would, therefore, include one tablespoon of oil, which contains 120 calories. Suddenly your 60 calorie salad is now a 180 calorie salad. And two-thirds of the calories are coming from the oil in the dressing. So while your eyes can fool you into thinking that youre eating a large salad with a little bit of dressing, your metabolism is actually dealing with a large amount of dressing with a small side of salad.

Oil is theres no way around it a highly processed food. Its had all of the fiber, protein, and most of the phytonutrients removed from whatever it was made from, creating a product that is pretty far from what nature intended.

What’s In The Healthy Salad Dressing

This healthy salad dressing has just FIVE ingredients for a homemade dressing everyone will rave about. Here’s what you will need to make it.

  • Honey: You can use any honey but local honey is always wonderful to have on hand!
  • Mustard: For my recipe, I used classic dijon mustard to get the grainy appearance and a bit more of a bite. Skip the classic yellow mustard for this recipe.
  • Greek Yogurt: Use plain greek yogurt! I like to use 0% to keep my dressings lower calorie but use full fat for an even creamier finished product.
  • Lemon: A touch of fresh lemon adds some brightness and zip that you can’t miss.
  • Olive Oil: I like to use my favorite high-quality olive oil for homemade salad dressings.
  • Salt: Just a touch of salt perfectly balances out the flavors in this dressing.

You probably already have most of these ingredients in your refrigerator!

Tools To Make Keto Salad Dressings At Home

Most of these dressings require just a few ingredients. You can absolutely make these in a blender or blender cup, but my favorite way to make dressings, especially vinaigrettes, is with a salad dressing shaker.

Salad Dressing Shakers allow you to dump & shake. They also work as an easy storage container. My favorite one is below.

Healthy Honey Mustard Dressing

Honey Mustard is often filled with sugar but my version is not! It’s light, bright, and creamy thanks to the mustard and greek yogurt. My Healthy Honey Mustard Dressing does have honey but no added refined sugar.

Serve it with my Fall Harvest Salad or any other salad you’d normally like Honey Mustard with. It also works great as a dip!

What Should You Look For In Keto Salad Dressings

Salad dressings from the store arent always appropriate for individuals attempting to cut carbs. Salad dressings with a high fat level and low carbohydrate content, on the other hand, are the ideal method to add healthy fats and taste to a veggie diet.

You can detect whether a salad dressing is keto-friendly by reading the product label. A keto-friendly salad dressing, for example, may feature fat or oil as one of the key components on the label, suggesting that the sauce is high in fat. The following are some characteristics to look for in a salad dressing:

Keto Caesar Salad Dressing

Move over, ranch dressing. Traditional Caesar salad dressing is salty, nutty, and full of savory flavors, but its not precisely keto-friendly.

Making your own Caesar salad dressing at home is simple, and you likely have all the ingredients on hand.

What makes this salad dressing so addictive is the addition of anchovies. Dont worry they dont have any fishy flavor at all!

When added to this dressing, the anchovies deliver a serious salty punch that pairs well with tangy Wotshtershire, garlic, and lemon juice.

Ranch who?

Sometimes, the best recipes are the ones that utilize the fewest ingredients.

While the ingredient list for this keto avocado lime dressing is short, it packs massive Mexican-inspired flavors.

The bright green color of this dressing is hard to resist, and youll likely use it for more than just salads.

The avocado base delivers massive creaminess without added sugars or carbs.

Build upon that creamy base with fresh herbs and a generous squeeze of lime juice to lift those flavors to the next level.

Sure, its excellent for salads, but its so thick and creamy that you can also use it as a dip for fresh veggies or swap it for mayo on burgers or wraps.

Homemade Keto Salad Dressing Faq And Tips

You might be asking these common queries if youâre new to low-carb meal prep or donât have much experience with cooking from scratch. Let me help!

What salad dressings are keto?

You can give practically any traditional salad dressing a keto spin by tweaking the recipe slightly. Vinaigrettes, creamy blue cheese, and classic Ranch dressing are just some types you can eat on keto.

What store-bought salad dressings are keto?

Always read the label before you buy a dressing or any food for that matter! Avoid vegetable oil, added sugar, and soy-derived ingredients. As long as itâs a whole-foods ingredient list, youâre probably fine because many store-bought salad dressings are naturally keto-friendly. However, note that while macros may be in line with keto, it can be hard to find options with quality ingredients, for that reason, I recommend making dressing at home.

Is Honey Keto Friendly

Honey is like sugar so why is it used in this recipe? As mentioned above, sweetness is needed in dressings to balance the acidity. Here, raw honey is used instead of monk fruit, coconut sugar, or organic cane sugar because it provides a nice flavor that a regular sweetener cannot.

Raw natural honey, especially from your local bee keepers, helps combat seasonal allergies. Honey also metabolizes slower than refined sugar because it is only 40% fructose and 30% glucose . Raw honey is also beneficial in preventing glycogen store depletion in athletes.

Social Squares

While you wouldnt want to slather your breakfast in honey if youre eating within keto macros, a little bit spread out is not going to be significant. One tablespoon of natural raw honey is 17 carbs. When those 17 carbs are spread out of 16 tablespoons of dressing, thats roughly 1 carb per tablespoon. So, overall, it is not adding significant carbohydrates to the dressing. You can omit the honey and replace it with 2 tablespoons of your preferred sweetener or 1 tablespoon of sugar free maple syrup.

Atkins Phase One Salad Dressings

? Sweet & Creamy Lemon Herb Dressing Low Carb Keto Salad Dressing Recipe

During phase one of the Atkins diet, you consume almost no carbohydrates. The only foods permitted are meats, poultry, seafood and fish, eggs, fats and oils and most watery, fibrous vegetables. You could make a salad with tomatoes, spinach, chopped celery and a little mashed avocado and not exceed your carb limit in this phase. Top the salad with an ounce of shredded cheddar cheese or two tablespoons of Parmesan for extra flavor.

You are limited to the amount of dressing used, and it shouldnt exceed 3 grams of carbohydrates per serving. Bottled options specifically listed by the Atkins plan include Caesar, bleu cheese, ranch and creamy Italian serving sizes are limited to 2 tablespoons. Alternatively, make your own dressing with 2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar or lemon or lime juice and a tablespoon of olive oil. Most fresh herbs are permitted even in phase one of the plan, so you could add them to a homemade dressing for more flavor. However, the plan limits lemon and lime juice to no more than 3 tablespoons total per day.

Is Greek Salad Dressing Good For You

Yes! Greek Salad Dressing is good for you because the base is olive oil, which used in moderation can be heart healthy. It’s unsaturated fat that can help lower cholesterol. My salad dressing is healthier because it uses a bit less oil and more vinegar. It also doesn’t contain preservatives that you might find in a packaged salad dressing.

Ingredients For Making Italian Dressing Keto

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Use the best quality you have – it makes a difference in the final taste of this low-carb Italian dressing recipe.
  • Red Wine Vinegar: You could also use white wine vinegar, but I think the red wine vinegar gives it a more complex flavor. Apple cider vinegar may also be used in this Italian vinaigrette.
  • Swerve Confectioners: This is a keto-friendly sugar substitute found at most grocery stores. Other sugar-free sweeteners such as monk fruit or allulose will also keep this dressing keto friendly.
  • Dijon Mustard: This adds a nice tanginess to the dressing.
  • Dried Parsley: This is for garnish and also adds a nice flavor. If you have fresh on hand, a tablespoon chopped is lovely here. You can also skip the parsley and oregano and use Italian seasoning.
  • Dried Oregano: This is another herb that adds flavor to the dressing. You can use a tablespoon of fresh oregano if you have it. If you like, basil may be substituted.
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes: This gives the dressing a little bit of heat that is subtle and not overpowering.
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese: This is optional, but it adds an excellent depth of flavor to the dressing.
