  • Halo Top is a fictional character created by the video game Halo. It has 25 flavors, only 70 calories per serving, and lower fat and protein levels than normal ice cream. Dairy-free delights from Yasso, Arctic Zero, Cado, Enlightened, and Breyers Delights.

The Most Nutritious Halo Top Flavors

Halo Top has also significantly expanded its product line over the years and now offers dairy popsicles with 100 calories or less, nondairy options made with coconut milk , and a Keto Series featuring keto-friendly pints and popsicles with 5 to 10 grams of net carbs per pint. Plus, it released three fruit sorbet options earlier this year.

In total, Halo Top currently offers 21 flavors of ice cream, four flavors of nondairy ice cream, three fruit sorbets, and 10 Keto pints, including classics like Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla Bean, as well as more interesting flavors like Chocolate Cheesecake and Vanilla Caramel Milkshake.

The pints of ice cream are its mainstay, and if you go for one, Mass suggests sticking with flavors that have fewer than 300 calories per pint, such as Strawberry, Vanilla Bean, Oatmeal Cookie, and Pistachio. Not only are they low in calories, but they are simpler and contain shorter ingredients lists than the higher-calorie counterparts, she says. Most of the other dairy and nondairy offerings are under 400 calories, but some of the Keto pints have more than 525 calories per pint, which is on par with what youd find in traditional ice cream.

Here are Halo Tops flavors with fewer than 300 calories per pint:

How Many Calories Are In A Pint Of Ice

It can vary greatly based on the brand and flavor and ingredients in the ice cream.

But for a rough estimate:

a 4 oz scoop of plain vanilla or chocolate ice cream have:

150-225 cals and 7-10 grams of fat

Since there are 16 oz in a pint, multiply that by 4:

For Plain chocoloate or vanilla that’s:

150-225 cals x 4 = 600-900 calories in a pint

and 7-10 grams of fat x4 = 28-40 grams of fat in a pint

Good strawberry low-calorie ice cream is difficult to find. Thankfully, Edy’s Slow Churned ice cream is able to deliver just that in its Neapolitan flavor. One-third of this dessert, which has 140 calories per serving, is yummy strawberry ice cream that has the perfect level of sweetness. Most low-calorie strawberry flavors have a chemical aftertaste, but that’s not the case at all with this Edy’s Slow Churned dessert.

The vanilla ice cream is also really delicious. It’s creamy and rich, so much so that you will cherish each spoonful that has vanilla in it. Unfortunately, while the strawberry and the vanilla flavors are great in this Neapolitan ice cream, the chocolate portion isn’t anything to write home about. It’s not horrible, mind you, but it’s far and away the worst of the three flavors. The chocolatey flavor is so light and inconspicuous that it can easily get lost in the shuffle.

Your Body On A Pint Of Ice Cream

A pint of ice cream usually contains four servings and more than 1,000 calories, which could equate to roughly 50% of a persons daily caloric intake.

Dig into the ingredients and nutrition facts and youll learn that eating ice cream in moderation might not be as unhealthy as youd expect. The fat in ice cream can slow the bodys digestion of sugar. Plus, it contains minerals including potassium, calcium and magnesium that help support healthy blood pressure.

But savoring such a large portion of ice cream has downsides, of course. A pint contains a megadose of carbs typically over 100 grams. Though carbs provide the body with energy, they get stored as fat if they arent used right away, the nutrition site Eat This Not That explained. Medical experts are split on whether or not the saturated fat in dairy products can increase your risk for heart disease.

Halo Top has more than 20 flavors of low-calorie ice cream and a wide variety of ice cream bars. The company also sells dairy-free and keto desserts. Of their entire selection of products, their Mint Chip ice cream is the cream of the crop. It’s amazing how good this ice cream tastes, especially since it has only 330 calories per pint. Not surprisingly, this ice cream gets rave reviews by dieters who keep a close eye on everything that enters their bodies.

This Halo Top ice cream has tasty chocolate chips generously dispersed within each pint. The chips are rich with a deep chocolatey flavor. Although the chocolate chips are memorable in their own right, it’s the mint-flavored ice cream that will steal your heart. While the Breyers Delights version of Mint Chip tastes like toothpaste, this Halo Top dessert has a much lighter and much fresher mint flavor that you will love from the first scoop to the last bite.

Halo Top: Strawberry Ice Cream

Halo Top has some tasty flavors but it also has some duds. While Strawberry is a popular flavor and only has 290 calories per pint, it’s one you should actively avoid.

First of all, this ice cream has a strong chemical taste to it. Instead of your taste buds being met by the endearing flavor of strawberries, they’re met by something that tastes like an industrial-strength cleaner. Amazingly, it only gets worse from there, as the aftertaste adds a separate flavor that also tastes like a chemical of some sort.

While the texture is better than the two previous ice creams, it’s also painfully obvious that a lot of air has been added to the mix. Although Halo Top is known to fill its ice cream with air, it’s a more glaring issue with the Strawberry flavor than it is with most of the other flavors. Then again, with as bad as this stuff tastes, the air is actually a welcome reprieve by comparison.

The cookie dough flavor is something special and very appealing to taste. Chocolate and cookie dough will please many people with their combination of flavors. Many countries have regulations controlling what can be described as ice cream.

In the U.S., the FDA rules state that to be described as “ice cream”, a product must have the following composition:

  • greater than 10% milk fat
  • 6 to 10% milk and non-fat milk solids: this component, also known as the milk solids-not-fat or serum solids, contains the proteins and carbohydrates found in milk

It generally also has:

  • 12 to 16% sweeteners: usually a combination of sucrose and glucose-based corn syrup sweeteners
  • 0.2 to 0.5% stabilizers and emulsifiers
  • 55 to 64% water, which comes from the milk or other ingredients.

These compositions are percentage by weight. Since ice cream can contain as much as half air by volume, these numbers may be reduced by as much as half if cited by volume. In terms of dietary considerations, the percentages by weight are more relevant.Even the low-fat products have high caloric content: Ben and Jerry’s No-Fat Vanilla Fudge contains 150 calories per half-cup due to its high sugar content.

They’re Weak On The Toppings

While eating my cartons, I’d voraciously search for all the bits of cookie-dough inside. After ample digging, I’d find a total of five freaking pieces in the whole pint. Five. Time and time again, I’d feel cheated because they were frauds for even calling it “Cookie Dough”. One could assume it was all part of the calorie schtick though if they took away most of the extras, it could be considered “healthy.”

Halo Top Versus Regular Ice Cream

Halo Top Vanilla Bean has 100 calories per 2/3-cup serving, 6 g of protein, and 7 g of sugar. A half-cup serving of regular vanilla ice cream, on the other hand, contains around 140 calories, 2 g of protein, and 14 g of sugar, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. So even with the larger serving size, Halo Top comes out ahead.

You are also looking at a large differential in sugars, because Halo Top uses sugar substitutes and regular sugar as sweeteners as opposed to just sugar alone, Mass says. Halo Tops protein comes from the ultra-filtered milk, regular milk, and eggs. The other big difference is weight: Halo Top is noticeably lighter than other ice creams Time magazine noted that a pint of Halo Top weighs 256 g versus 428 g for Ben & Jerrys, possibly because it contains less fat and sugar than ice cream.

If you want to take a gamble, buy the Mocha Fudge Brownie flavor of Ben & Jerry’s Moophoria. Sometimes, you will love what you get. Other times, you will be totally let down, and you will feel like you got shortchanged.

The base ice cream in this Mocha Fudge Brownie dessert is a combination of chocolate and coffee and it’s really, really tasty. You’ll also find swirls of toasted marshmallows, which gives it a yummy s’mores-like flavor. However, what will completely determine your satisfaction level will be the number of brownie chunks you find in your pint of low-calorie ice cream. If you get a lot of chunks, you’ll be thrilled. If you only get a lone brownie chunk or just a couple of them, you will feel like you got the raw end of the transaction.

Tip: When you are looking for Ben & Jerry’s low-calorie ice cream, be sure that it has the word “Moophoria” on the package. Compared to regular Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, the Moophoria versions have much less fat, sugar, and calories.
